Criminal Law
Jennifer regularly defends in the criminal courts. In addition, she is appointed to the Attorney General's Unified List of Prosecuting Counsel, and is instructed by a number of prosecuting authorities. She has a wide range of experience of the whole spectrum of offences, most notably fraud, including benefit fraud and fraud committed against an employer. She also appears in cases involving violent, sexual, drug-related and dishonesty-related crimes, including robbery and burglary. She has been instructed as junior counsel in a case involving a large scale fraud within the entertainment industry and as disclosure counsel for the Serious Fraud Office, as well as being instructed to advise on matters of legal privilege. She has a clear understanding of the legal framework for confiscation orders, as well as other ancillary orders that might be considered after trial.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Jennifer spent six months in the Hague working for the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia.
Civil Law
Jennifer advises and represents both claimants and defendants in personal injury cases including highway authority claims, employer's liability claims and claims arising from road traffic accidents. She regularly drafts pleadings and opinions in these matters. She also practices in property law, general negligence and contract law. Her work includes all types of hearings and applications in the county courts and the High Court: she regularly conducts trials and is experienced in both settlement negotiations and mediation. She appears at coroner's inquests, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel, professional disciplinary tribunals and Medical Appeal Tribunals.
Police Law
Jennifer acts on behalf of a number of police forces in applications for SOPOs, ASBOs and closure orders. She represents both the police and UKBA in applications for cash forfeiture. She also acts for the police in applications for disclosure in family proceedings, in which her experience of family care proceedings from the early years of her practice proves most useful.
Jennifer is an editor of Sweet & Maxwell’s Landlord and TenantReports. She was a contributing author to APIL's Guide to Evidence book and a contributing editor to 9 Gough Square's own Asbestos Claims and Clinical Negligence books. She assisted in drafting the chapter on CICA applications in Kemp & Kemp, Personal Injury, Law, Practice and Procedure. She is also a regular contributor to Chamber's publications, including:
